Bentley Operatic Society

The Bentley Operatic Society was founded in 1913 and is currently Liverpool's only Gilbert and Sullivan society.

In March each year the Bentley stage one of the shows from the G&S canon, for the last three years using the state-of-the-art Brindley Theatre in Runcorn for week long performances of their NODA nominated Ruddigore in 2006 and The Gondoliers in 2007 (which has also received three NODA nominations).

For 2008- Capital of Culture, both Trial by Jury  and The Pirates of Penzance  were staged in February.

During the summer a number of concerts are given for local charities and groups. This year's concerts are as follows:-

  • 25 June 2008       Halewood Culturefest, Hollies Hall, Hollies Road, Halewood
  • 28 June 2008       St Luke's Church, Poulton

New members are always welcome. Rehearsals are on most Tuesdays at 8pm in *Oakvale Church Hall (L13 4AD), on the corner of Broadgreen Road and Edge Lane, Liverpool.  After rehearsals several members usually retire to the Childwall Abbey pub.  Other social aspects of the Society include annual trips to Stratford, Gawsworth Hall and the Buxton G&S Festival.
